The Star Spangled Stampede equestrian drill team is an award-winning group of youth from Autauga County, Alabama. The participants, ages 9 to 18, are members of the Autauga County 4-H Horse Club.
Not only has the drill team performed for Little Boots Rodeo for the past several years, but the disciplined competitors have also exhibited their skills at the Miracle Rodeo, the Southeastern Livestock Rodeo, parades, and opening ceremonies for many venues. The team has traveled throughout the southeast to various drill team competitions and received numerous awards. Since the inception of drill team competition in the 4-H State program in 2008, the team has earned the Championship title for both years.
The Star Spangled Stampede has been honored by a Commendation from Governor Bob Riley of Alabama, a Resolution from the Alabama House of Representatives, and a Certificate of Recognition from Alabama’s Secretary of State for outstanding achievement. The 2005 team is the recipient of the 2005 National Freedom’s Foundation’s Meritorious George Washington Honor Medal for excellence in the Special Events Category.
The SSS is a strong supporter of the Little Boots Rodeo, with two current members who are past Little Boots Rodeo Princesses: Jessie Lynn Nichols (’99,’01,’04, ’06) and Nicole Bulgrin (’08). Several past members have reigned as Queens/Princesses and previous members have earned LBR reserve championships.
The Stampede is coached by Sherri Nichols and Bonnie Shanholtzer, USEDA certified judges, coaches, and drill masters. If you would like more information or to schedule the group for an event, contact:
